"You CAN teach old dogs new tricks"
Welcome to my website. I am a Certified Master Dog Trainer, Julie Cattabiani. My other titles are Canine Behavior Consultant and Canine Behavior Specialist. Does your dog walk you? Mark in your house? Doesn't come when you call? Or maybe there's a few things and you just can't seem to figure out what your doing wrong. If any of this sounds familiar chances are you may not be your dogs pack leader. Too many people and even some trainers apply human characteristics to dogs. They use their interpretation of what they think dogs understand and apply it to training. I'm not trying to criticize dog owners, it's not your fault. Dogs are adorable creatures and we want to treat them as children, but before we can spoil them they need to be well behaved. We need to understand what their own interpretation of the situation is and understand that they are still descendents of the wolves. Closer related than you may realize, dogs are still very capable of behaving like little wild animals. There needs to be a pack leader. If you the owner doesn't take on the role of the pack leader, your dog will. Now when your dog takes on this role, it is very stressful for them and behavior problems arise or get worse. Most dogs, (I emphasize most because there are exceptions) don't want to be the pack leader. You will see a big difference in a dog who was taking the pack leader role and then once someone else (the owner) assumes this role, the dog relaxes. It becomes a huge weight lifted off your dogs shoulders because they just needed someone to take authority. Now they will enjoy being the follower. As for those dogs that want that role, we need to fight for it. Show the dog who's in charge. I could go on for hours so I'm not going to go any deeper into that right now. Basically a lot of this can be done just through proper obedience instruction. We teach most if not all of obedience without treats. I'm not against giving your dogs treats, but I want the dog to learn the behaviors because they are obeying the human leaders and understand what their being taught, not just doing it to get the food. Our work is guaranteed as long as you work with your dog, any dog can regress if your not consistent. Lets face it dogs are a lot of work but we love them and want their companionship, so do what's best for your dog.

What methods do I use: The dogs temperament plays a key role in what type of training that dog requires. I evaluate the dog and then use the proper method of training. I am familiar with all aspects of training methods out there and to properly obedience train a dog it must go according to the individual dog itself, not one type of method alone. Many trainers stick to ''Positive reinforcement" but a good trainer knows that discipline is just as important as praise.

Additional training in: Personal protection, poison proofing, and consultations on preparing for a baby.

Location: I live in Staten Island, N.Y but within reason will travel to any of the five boroughs and some parts of New Jersey. Contact me from the link above to find out if I can come to your area.
